Last night the girls and I watched some of the track and field trials as well as the gymnastic trails. In all reality, most of us only watch these particular sports every four years. I will follow track and field here and there, but I can tell you for a fact I only watch gymnastics come Olympics. But the Olympics is something that tugs on our heartstrings when it comes around. Looking at these events and people who have trained for four years to “attempt” to make the team. When you see the excitement of the ones who make it and goodness help us the tears of those that get knocked out of the running, it tugs on your heart either way. Our night was made when Gabby Douglas, who has been struggling, made the team. Also seeing Brenda Martinez come in 3rd place in the 1500 meter to make the team after the disastrous 800 meter race. Unfortunately, Allyson Felix didn’t make it in the 200 meter after struggling with an injury for quite some time. These are the highs and lows of the trials. For many, simply making the team is the dream of a life time. For others, they know they will have world domination. Watching has gotten me excited all over again. I’m prepared for the games to start. Stay tuned for some awesome recipes to go with the games as well as some different cultures. But as for today, it’s a throwback. An oldie but a goodie.
