Mountain Lion-City Lion….Coming out on top

As long as I can remember, I have been the quintessential cheerleader for the underdog. Some prime examples; the 1980 USA Olympic Ice Hockey team, Rocky Bleier,  Zola Budd(before the elbow), the Jamaican Bobsledding team, Eminem,  and the Blind Side along with Glory Roads both give me a good excuse to cry. Sadly, I now have to include all collegiate athletes that never received a luxury SUV...

Everyone Loves A Winner

While watching ESPN this weekend, one of the morning talk shows commented on General Patton's statement "Everyone loves a winner and forgets a loser." ( something along those lines the coffee hadn't kicked in). The commentary was about Tiger Woods and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s void of a major win in 36 months. I had to think, "Do we as fans write off a beloved athlete,...

Pure Passion- Chandler Brown

If you ever played an organized sport, you can attest to the fact there were some coaches you loved and others maybe not so much. I admit I have a couple voodoo dolls from my past. :)  Coaches, like any teacher, must establish a rapport with their athletes that is built on respect, dedication, and guidance. Now I don't have a degree in psychology, but I do know this; when someone has my...

Family Game Day!

On Saturday, my daughters and I woke at the crack of dawn. It ran a close second to Christmas morning for the girls. We acknowledge the rooster's call by driving down to the Ravens' practice scrimmage. My friend John Dunn, the strength training coach for the Baltimore Ravens, invited us down for the day.  Fortunately, we were able to meet up with my good friend Shelly Mitchell-...

Let’s make a toast!

Over the summer three high-profile NFL QB's tied the knot. Ben Roethlisberger, Tony Romo, and Joe Flacco took the plunge, sold their soul, jumped the broom, whatever term works for you.  Apparently, no expense was spared on these soirees.  Now that's what I am talking about. Spending a ton of money because you can.  Ben's wedding, which was held in Ohio, hosted 600 guests....

Feeding Frenzy

I am currently under fire.  Even though my daughters enjoy football, they are brinking on mutiny. We are in arbitrations over the 24/7 ESPN "situation". My plea of, "Just let Mommy get through this",  could possibly imply I need an intervention. Just know, consideration to allow 30 minutes of Sponge Bob is currently on the table. Seriously, I can't get enough of the press...

Are You Ready For Some Football?

For me, the end of the lockout is a close second to the birth of my daughters. I nearly wept when I turned on ESPN Monday afternoon.  Football fans everywhere are experiencing New Years Eve, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and the Super Bowl all in one. It was very touching to watch Jeff Saturday, of the Colts, thank and hug Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots. He was thanking him for his...

Breakfast of Champions and A Championship Brunch

Upon a recent trip to the grocery store, I noticed that Shaun White, Chris McCormack, and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. were the faces of Wheaties on three different boxes. If my memory serves me correctly, we didn't have any options. I was rather impressed. Bruce Jenner is definitely my greatest memory of a Wheaties cover. Mary Lou Retton, Walter Payton, and Michael Jordan also resonate in my...

The Taste Of Pride

Certainly,  there was a wave of disappointment in America on Sunday when the USA Women's Soccer team was unable to win the World Cup. Even though they did not take home the trophy(the bacon as one might say), I know we all  feel a great sense of pride behind the accomplishments of this outstanding team. Every game was played with heart, tenacity, and exceptional skill. Each post game...

NFL Lockout……Suffocation……Tailgate Foods To Resuscitate

Jordan Sparks American Idol winner and daughter of  former NFL player Phillippi Sparks is a clairvoyant.  When she and Chris Brown sang the song "No Air", she was predicting the suffocation we the NFL fans would feel in the summer of 2011.  I quote from the song, "Losing you is like living in a world with no air." Normally, we rely on The Swami to make these predictions....
